Summary This is a one-year creative and technical course, which is designed to help you gain an understanding of the fundamental elements of media, film and screen production. The course is designed to help you progress onto the level 3 Media Production and Technology program and further your studies at higher levels. During your time on the course you will receive dedicated support from our experienced tutors who each have experience in the industry and their own specialisms within the subject. During the course you will learn a wide range of media topics such as filming, editing, research, production planning, audio production and online digital practices. The course offers students freedom to be creative and investigate the practical aspects of film and audio production. The course also has its own film studio which is equipped with industrial- standard film and lighting equipment. If you have a curiosity about how films, TV and online content is made then this course will set you on your way to understanding how they are made and allow you to produce your own. The programme will help you to develop a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the areas of Media, Film and Screen Production. (Editing, Lighting, Cameras, Audio and Graphics). During the course, you will work in groups and independently to research, develop, communicate, plan, film/produce, edit, publish and evaluate media products for Film, TV and online platforms. Typical projects include Short Films, Documentaries, Podcasts, Music video and Advertising. Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this course progress onto the Level 3 Media Production and Technology programme. Industry placement, field trips and guest speakersField trips to local places of interest as filming locations are sometimes used to embrace learning outside of the classroom environment.We have annual trips to a BAFTA-accredited film festival, television studio tours and local media events.Students will also gain experience of work by engaging with external companies to produce media content to a client brief and by working on location and live events.Trips are funded by students and optional, the cost of local day trips can range from £10 - £25.There is no assessed work placement on this course but you will be required to complete a minimum of 20 hours work experience in a related media industry activity. How will I learn? Teaching is via interactive workshops, seminars and online resources.Some of the units are delivered in projects that will encompass multiple unit content.This full-time course is delivered in workshops that encourage practical application of skills developed. Students will work in group production tasks and also independently.All the tutors on the course are working or have worked in the industry and can share a wealth of experience. All our tutors have higher levels of education in media specific areas.While on the course you will be able to work with staff to produce media for external clients during our live briefs thus giving you a greater understanding into the media production industry.A typical timetable will consist of session and workshops over a 4 day week and the fifth day being used for independent research or practical production days. Expert tutorsAll staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. How will I be assessed? How will I be assessed?Assessment is based purely on coursework, there is no exam.Students work on a variety of practical assignments that reflect media industry practice. Assessment is through a range of written work, presentations and practical projects (planning, post-production and reflective evaluation).
