At Blackpool and The Fylde College, we treat the privacy of your data with the utmost respect and follow strict procedures as to its collection, use and retention.

We reserve the right to amend this privacy statement. You should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any changes.

 

Data collection - what information do we ask for?

We only ask for as much information needed to fulfil the nature of your enquiry or application. This might include the following:

  • Name
  • Contact information including email address
  • Demographic information such as postcode, preferences and interests

The College also receives and records information on server logs from your browser, including your IP address and the page(s) you requested, but this information cannot identify you personally.

 

Data use – what do we do with your personal information?

We may use your personal information in the following ways:

  • For administration purposes
  • To provide you with the services, products or information you’ve requested
  • In carrying out the above, sharing your information with our service providers, associated organisations and agents
  • From time to time, we may also use your information to contact you for market research purposes. We may contact you by email, phone or mail. We may use the information to customise the website according to your interests
  • Disclosing your information to other parties, if required by law

 

Your consent – what you’re agreeing to

Where we ask for consent to collect or use personal data, the data subject can withdraw that consent at any time.

Students, employees, applicants and others can ask us to delete some or all of those data items or stop us from using it for certain purposes.

This is done by completing a withdrawal of consent form and emailing it to the B&FC data protection office at datarequest@blackpool.ac.uk - or by calling us on 01253 504064.

Your right of access – what you’re entitled to see

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 2018 and to have any inaccuracies in your information corrected. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please email datarequest@blackpool.ac.uk.

This is a piece of JavaScript code embedded on our site that enables us to track visitors movement through the site and record specific actions and events which we use to better inform our advertising on the platform.

Specific cookies we use

B&FC uses the following cookies, for the following purposes:

Our website and online application system uses Google products such as Doubleclick ‘Spotlight’ tags to monitor the effectiveness of online marketing campaigns. We also use Google Analytics, a web service, which tracks anonymously web visitors and helps us to monitor its effectiveness, and Google Adwords which serves adverts across Google’s search, display, email and Gmail networks. Cookies are set by Google to support this activity. In addition we use Bing Advertising Network and a cookie (MUID) that generates an anonymous, unique user ID.

Facebook – We use Facebook’s Ad Manager to promote the College. Cookies are used to enhance the effectiveness of our campaigns and help us to measure results.

Moodle and Canvas (by Instructure) are virtual learning environments designed to provide learners with a robust system for creating personalised learning environments. The MoodleSession cookie helps create a login session and the session will expire after a period of inactivity, this helps keep your account safe by logging out when not in use. To learn about Instructure's information practices for data collected through our corporate sites, please visit instructure.com.

Estream is a video and streaming platform that has thousands of educational videos with the ability to live stream lectures and presentations as well as record live TV, stream also offers digital signage that is used on all the screens around the college. The only cookies in use on Estream are for Google Analytics to help us to understand how users engage with Estream. 

Mahara is an ePortfolio and social networking system. As a mahara.org user, you can determine what personal information you make available to others. By default, unless assigned Administrator, Staff or Tutor access rights, a user may only view your Preferred Name. This includes listings within a Notification report or Visitor Log. We may also collect system usage for statistical purposes however this data will not identify any individual. 

Survey Monkey allows you to develop, publish and collect responses to surveys. Surveys can be public, or can be strictly controlled through the use of "once-only" tokens for each survey participant. Survey Monkey also uses Google Analytics.

Zendesk is a live chat software used on our website, a 3rd party UK based software company. See the Zendesk Cookie Policy for more information about how the data is processed and stored.

Issuu - turnpage publication system that allows us to present prospectus and guides for prospective students. Cookies are generated as unique numbers for identifying previous preferences (including language preferences) when viewing online documents.

Swiftype - this is our on-site search system that generates a cookie tracking anonymously your journey from initial search query across this website to help us understand how we can improve our website to provide you with an improved experience.

Third parties – our website and other services may contain links and embedded content from other websites and services (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn). These websites and services may set their own cookies.

Turning off cookies
