Course SummaryStart your journey towards a career in the exciting world of tourism and events with the Diploma in Skills for Business: Sales and Marketing starting in September. This new course has been co-created with industry leaders to develop the skills needed to work in the tourism and events business. The fundamental knowledge and skills for anyone who wishes to make that first step into leadership are the same in any sector, that being, leadership, communication, problem solving, planning and customer service. Also, you will learn effective sales and marketing techniques, essential fundamental skills to gain a competitive advantage. The optional units in this course, have been tailored to match the local labour demand for tourism and events. You will also benefit from expert tutors with a wealth of industry experience. Your programme of study will take place during the daytime, currently scheduled across two days (Thursday and Friday). This course is designed for adults (19+) who wish to upskill to gain employment within the business, tourism or events sector or who wish to progress onto higher education. Entry Requirements This course is for adults aged 19 and over and ideally suited for people working in a business/tourism/hospitality environment and looking to progress in this area. You will need to complete an entry assessment, and we will invite you to have an informal discussion with the Course Tutor. Entry onto the course is dependent upon qualifications and/or experience. Qualification ObtainedDiploma in Skills for Business: Sales and Marketing Industry Placement and Field TripsIndustry placement and field trips are not relevant to this course. Learning and Teaching Methods The objectives of this qualification are to: focus on the study of tourism, events and business skills, including sales and marketing offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills. During the year you will study six mandatory units and four further optional units specifically chosen to provide you with the skills you need in today’s competitive job market. Unit 02 Deliver customer service in a business environment (10.5%) Unit 03 Produce documents in a business environment (10.5%) Unit 05 Work with others in a business environment (10.5%) Unit 06 Communicate in a business environment (10.5%) Unit 07 Contribute to running a project (10.5%) Unit 09 Manage and improve own performance in a business environment (10.5%) Unit 11 Creative product promotion (10.5%) Unit 12 Market research in business (10.5%) Unit 15 Understanding the relationship between sales and marketing (3.7%) Unit 16 Conferences and events (12.3%) At Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and for some it may be a return to the classroom following a break from formal learning. Our tutors work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you like to learn. One key teaching and learning method is that of demonstrations. Your tutors ensure that demonstrations are used whenever possible so you can see the practical skill being used so you can then practise the skill. You will work collaboratively with your peers in group work, presentations and within practical sessions. There will be dedicated individual/self-study time on your programme which needs to be supported by your own study out of the College learning environments. E-learning is also a key element of all our courses and will involve you using our Canvas platform for independent study and learning. Within the curriculum we also use a range of on-line apps to support, enhance and motivate learning. Your tutors will be support you with new technologies used in the classroom. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Other Costs and Equipment NeededAll students will be expected to provide their own stationery, to include: pens, notepad and an A4 folder. Replacement ID badges will be at a cost of £3 or £8 if incorporated with a bus pass. For photocopying, students are provided with the first 80 black and white free of charge. Any additional copies for black and white are charged at 4p per copy. An extra curricula calendar will be made available at the start of the academic year. There will be a wide variety of opportunities for participation, however, these are not mandatory. The costs will vary according to activity and will be available to you at sign up. Tuition fees You may be eligible for the advanced learner loan to fund your studies. You may also be eligible for different financial support for 19+ which include help with childcare.
