This fast-track programme gives adult learners the opportunity to become degree ready in just 6 months with the option to progress directly onto our Professional Policing degree having successfully negotiated the Level 3 programme.

Taught by tutors with hands on experience, the course brings to life what's involved in working for the police and gives students the opportunity to quickly assess whether this rewarding career is for them. It also helps them develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours that recruiters are looking for in potential police officers so that when it comes to competing for actual jobs B&FC students are well placed to demonstrate these and give themselves a competitive advantage.

Successful completion of this course means that you can enrol onto our Professional Policing (Pre-join) BA Hons Degree.

Qualifications in Public Services offer opportunities for career progression and leadership roles. As you gain experience and demonstrate your capabilities, you may have the chance to take on managerial or executive positions, leading teams or entire departments.

Being in a leadership position can be challenging but also rewarding, as you will have the ability to shape policies and make significant decisions to have a positive impact on the public.

This course is for adults aged 19+ with at least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (previously grades A*-C), including English or Maths, or equivalent qualifications.

We also welcome applications from those with relevant work/voluntary experience in place of the above qualifications, in which case a pre-course assessment may be required.

Extra costs and equipment

All students will be expected to provide their own stationery including pens, notepad and an A4 folder. Replacement ID badges cost £3 or £8 if incorporated with a bus pass. For photocopying, students are provided with the first 80 black and white free of charge. Any additional copies for black and white are charged at 4p per copy.

What will I learn?

During the course you will study one mandatory module and two modules that have been specifically chosen by Blackpool and The Fylde College to provide you with the skills you need in today's competitive job market.

You will study the following modules:

  • Prepare for a career in the police service (33.3%)
  • UK legal systems and the police service (33.3%)
  • Safeguarding and Prevent Duty (33.3%)

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

There is no formal requirement to complete Industry Placement hours although we will actively encourage and support you to take part in voluntary work throughout your course. Volunteering improves your prospects of employment and progression to a higher education course.

How will I learn?

At Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and for some it may be a return to the classroom following a break from formal learning. Our tutors work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you prefer to learn. This twelve week course comprises of three hours per week direct tutor contact and up to nine hours per week of E-learning and independent study.

Demonstrations are a regular feature in teaching sessions and an effective way to showcase the skills and techniques that will be explained to you before you try them for yourself.

Some of the lessons will be practical-based, at B&FC we believe that an effective way you can learn and visualise a concept is by practising and testing these ideas for yourself. Our cutting-edge teaching facilities are equipped with all the tools and resources that will enable you to learn practically and safely.

This course is designed, delivered and assessed by ex-police personnel with extensive teaching experience.

This qualification is achieved by completing 100% internally-assessed modules, there are no external examinations. Methods of assessments include reports, presentations and projects.
