  • Edible glue
  • Plastic cake smoother
  • Selection of paste colours
  • Modelling tool set
  • Piping nozzles
  • Cake boards
  • General scissors
  • Box to take your work home

You will be advised each week about ingredients you will need for the following week.

What will I learn?

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

There are no work placements and no field trips on this course.

How will I learn?

This six-week course develops skills in the following cake decorating techniques:

  • Week 1: Introduction to Simple Flowers
  • Week 2: Correctly Levelling, Torting and Icing a Sponge Cake and Making Fondant Bows Using Modelling Paste
  • Week 3: Using Modelling Paste to Produce Figures for Fun Cake Designs
  • Week 4: Introduction to Royal Icing
  • Week 5: Decorative Royal Icing Techniques, Finish Run-Out Pieces and Brush Embroidery
  • Week 6: Themed Cupcakes

This is a highly practical and hands-on evening course. The teaching is informal and uses a ‘demonstration and do’ method of delivery.

No independent study is needed.
