It focuses on the study of mental health and mental well-being to support different occupational areas. You will understand how to support mental well-being through various stages of life, mental ill health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health, as well as the skills required to work in a mental health service. You must also have either have completed a Level 2 qualification in mental health or a related subject or have a minimum of 6 months experience working directly with individuals with mental health. Qualification Obtained Certificate in Understanding Mental Health Learning and Teaching Methods Within the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units: Unit 01 Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing Unit 02 Promotion of mental health and wellbeing Unit 03 Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences Unit 04 Understanding mental ill health Unit 05 Working in mental health. Industry Placement and Field Trips This is a knowledge-only qualification; there are no work placements and no field trips on this programme. Your course will begin with you attending college for an induction session to meet the curriculum team. The course will then be delivered remotely with live lectures and support sessions schedule for a total of 4.5 hours a week for 18 weeks (term time only). Within these sessions there will be tutor delivery, question and answer, discussion, group work tasks and individual tasks. You will also attend College for 2 or 3 small group seminars within your scheduled delivery time over the duration of your course. All dates for college attendance will be provided at the start of your course. It is expected that you will complete a minimum of 3 hours independent study, each week, outside of the class to complete the assessment tasks which take the form of electronic workbooks. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Career Options and Progression This qualification will support many roles within the care sector; this can include support worker, residential support worker, care assistant, mental health support or a clinical support worker.
