Course Overview

Prepare for an exciting career in lighting and sound or stage management with this level 3 Production Arts course. Designed to deliver the next generation of production arts professionals, this course develops skills in lighting and sound design and operation, set design and building, stage management and running a show. With access to our superbly-equipped theatre facility and supported by experienced staff, you will have an opportunity to work on different productions with professional directors and performing arts and music students. Progression includes degree-level study and/or eventual employment as lighting or sound technicians, stage managers, house managers and many more.

Entry Requirements

To do this course, you will need 5 GCSEs, one of which must be Maths or English.

You should have a keen interest in theatre, with a desire to work in lighting and sound or stage management.

Extended Diploma in Production Arts (QCF)

Essential Skills – English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching mostly takes place in our well-equipped theatre and performing arts studios with our technical and performing arts tutors and directors.

Most sessions are practical and industry related, with some theory elements taught alongside these. Timetabled sessions total 14 hours a week and you will be expected to devote an additional 6 hours a week to independent and online study.

The course includes the opportunity to improve your maths and English, and to undertake one of a variety of creative arts enrichment activities.
