Short Course – Couture Sewing Techniques
Dates and Times // Wednesday 11 March-6 May (no classes 08/04 15/04) // 6.30-8.30pm // Fashion Studios // Basement // Palatine Building
This advanced course focuses on a range of quality sewing skills as used in the fashion industry to produce a ‘Chanel’ style jacket. This couture sewing course focuses on the specialist stitching skills needed for constructing high quality garments. You will learn the systematic stages of manufacture of a couture garment using appropriate materials, and produce a bespoke, made-to-measure garment. To get the most out of the course, you will need intermediate sewing skills and there is an expectation that you will be able to do some of the work in your own time.
Entry Requirements
No prior qualifications are necessary for this short course, however to get the most out of it you should have intermediate level sewing skills.

Teaching and Learning Methods
Each of the sessions will begin with a tutor demonstration of specialist techniques and you will progress through a series of practical tasks. An indicative schedule for the course is as below.

Week 4 - 03/04 – Two-Piece Sleeve Block
Week 5 - 24/04 – Inserting the Sleeve
Weeks 6 - 01/05 – Lining and Trims
Week 7 - 08/05 – Tailored Hems and Finishings
