This exciting course is the perfect springboard to a career in the industry where you will learn about; The UK travel and Tourism industry and all its sectors, customer service, responsible tourism, specialist tourism and leadership and management in the sector, alongside this we will help you develop your CV, interview skills and preparation for employment. On completion of this course with distinction grades and relevant industry experience, you could progress on to Level 4 HNC Hospitality management here at B&FC or other higher education options, or you might want to upskill to return to the world of work. We work very closely with local and national employers who help shape our course content and potentially support job applications at the end of the course. As part of the study package you will also take part in a pre-course – Level 2 Certificate in skills for further education and employment, this short *fully funded course will give you the academic tool kit needed to support your level 3 course. Entry RequirementsThis course is specifically for 19+ learners. 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above or Level 2 relevant qualification. Required English and Maths at grade 4 or above a successful interview with a tutor the ability to study independently a genuine interest in the subject good communication skills hardworking approach towards the industry If you don't meet the academic entry requirements but have lots of industry experience, it may still be possible to gain entry onto the course. If it would be beneficial to improve your English and maths skills, we will look to enrol you on a suitable course so that you can study these at the same time as your chosen subject. Qualification ObtainedCertificate in Travel and Tourism Industry Placement and Field TripsAs part of the course, you will have access to industry speakers giving you an insight into content related topics, plus visit local employers to learn about their business operations and guest services Learning and Teaching MethodsAt Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and for some it may be a return to the classroom following a break from education. Our expert tutors will work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you like to learn. You will work collaboratively with your peers in group work, presentations and within practical sessions. There will be dedicated individual/self-study time on your programme which needs to be supported by your own study out of the College learning environments. E-learning is also a key element of all our courses and will involve you using our Canvas platform for independent study and learning. Within the curriculum we also use a range of on-line apps to support, enhance and motivate learning. Your tutors will be support you with new technologies used in the classroom and polish up those digital skills! The course runs from September to June with one full day face to face 9.00am – 3.00pm (normally Thursday) and 10 hours self-guided learning per week with online tutorial support every Friday morning. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment MethodsThis qualification consists of 6 equal weighted units that include: The UK Travel and Tourism Industry (16.6%) Customer Service (16.6%) Leadership and Human Resources (16.6%) Responsible Tourism (16.6%) Specialist Tourism (16.6%) Preparing for a Career (16.6%) NCFE Level 2 certificate in skills for further education and employment Academic research and writing skills Presentation skills Developing self Time management and problem-solving skills Whether you have just finished studying or are returning after many years, we will guide you through the assessment process. In this course you will be assessed in a variety of ways to showcase your skills and new knowledge and build on your transferable skills. This may take form as a presentation or report, podcast recording or vlogging. Other Costs and Equipment NeededAll students will be expected to provide their own stationery, to include: pens and a notepad . Replacement ID badges will be at a cost of £3 or £8 if incorporated with a bus pass. For photocopying, students are provided with the first 80 black and white free of charge. Any additional copies for black and white are charged at 4p per copy. You will have access to college digital equipment such as laptops and desk top computers in the many learning resource centres, although you may use your own device should you wish. An extra curricula calendar will be made available at the start of the academic year. There will be a wide variety of opportunities for participation, however, these are not mandatory. The costs will vary according to activity and will be available to you at sign up. Tuition Fees Some courses are fully funded for adult learners and, for those that aren’t, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. You may also be eligible for financial support which can include help with childcare. You could also look at undertaking higher education courses at other institutions but we advise you to check the entry requirements for these courses rather than relying on being automatically eligible.
