This programme is aimed at practising or aspiring managers who will supervise or manage a team to achieve clearly defined outcomes. They will set and monitor goals and objectives by providing instruction, direction and guidance.

Day to day operational and project activities are a key part of their role. The programme has been designed for practising or aspiring managers in roles such as: Team Leader, Supervisor, Project Officer.

This qualification has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for a wide range of individuals. This includes those at the start of their career who wish to take their first steps into professional management, as well as those who may already have developed practical experience but who now want to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however as the unit is traditionally assessed through assignment-based work therefore you will need to have a good understanding of the English language and writing. As well as basic computer / IT skills.

Ideally, you need to be working within an organisation or role where you can demonstrate skills and apply knowledge. Alternatively, you could draw on precious experience within an organisation or use an organisation you are familiar with.

There are no extra costs and equipment required for this course.

How will I learn?

A flexible blended model will be utilised to enable you to meet the learning outcomes of the programme. There will be a negotiated approach to assessment which will draw upon your existing experiences and meet your organisational requirements. For example, all assessments will be directly related to your role and will involve work related scenarios which have the potential to impact positively on business growth and development.

This will include six day long sessions over any time frame that suits. The face-to-face delivery will consist of intensive interactive teaching and learning activities which will support the development of a learning community; the acquisition of content and facilitate formative and summative assessments.

Online materials to support directed independent learning via the VLE and CMI resources.

All written assessments will be submitted online via the VLE where written feedback will be provided online within fifteen working days.

The will consist of delivery in the morning then completion of tasks towards the assessment in the afternoon. There will be no additional time outside sessions required therefore not impacting operational performance outside the designated session.

Expert tutors

All staff involved in the delivery of higher education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.

The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

Being equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to manage and lead effectively is essential if an individual and their organisation are to succeed. This unit has been designed for learners who want to develop or sharpen their professional edge and enhance personal effectiveness.

The unit focuses on the ways organisations operate. The application of management and leadership approaches and how these can positively impact on own role, lead to improved performance, and support teams, colleagues and customers.

You will write a report based on the principles of managing a team to achieve results. You can draw upon your own experience of managing a team within your own organisation. You can also present work-based evidence accompanied by reports / reflective  accounts to meet each assessment criteria.
