Summary

The Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. It is aimed at learners 16-18 who wish to develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these settings.

This qualification provides pathways into the sector for school leavers or anyone considering a career in Health, Social Care and Early Years.

It will not confirm competence in a job role but will provide an opportunity for learners to develop knowledge about the wider Health, Social Care and Early Years sector before they decide whether working in the sector is for them and gain information to make decisions about career progression for further education.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners must be at least 14 years of age.

Grade 1 or 2 in Maths and English.

How will I learn?

You will attend college 3 days per week where you will study units covering topics/areas including:

  • Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • Understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings

Classroom taught sessions which are enhanced with an opportunity to engaged in enrichment activities such as:

  • Volunteering
  • Team Building
  • Community based projects

Student will create a portfolio of evidence which will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks, This may include things such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.
