Summary Students from this programme can progress to a range of therapy-related degrees and careers, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and dietetics. You will enjoy a 315-hour placement with Blackpool Teaching Hospital on the NHS Future Talent Programme, shadowing and observing a range of allied health professionals at the Trust. The course covers all aspects of working in the health and science sector and includes a substantial work placement from which you will gain valuable practical experience to support your career goals. Successfully complete this course and you'll have the UCAS Tariff points required to progress to higher education (degree-level) qualifications. T Levels are two-year, technical study programmes, designed with employers to give you the skills industry needs. You take just one T Level - equivalent to three A Levels. Unlike A Levels, T Levels provide: technical knowledge and skills specific to your preferred career an industry placement of at least 45 days Maths, English and digital skills, as well as a range of clinical skills. Successful students can gain the maximum 168 UCAS points needed to progress to a related degree. Career progressionThis T Level programme prepares you to embark on a relevant degree course and throughout your time here we will support you in progressing towards your chosen career. Following successful completion of your T Level you can apply for degrees in: Physiotherapy Radiography Occupational Therapy Operating department practitioner This course provides access to degree apprenticeships in, for example, Speech and Language Therapy. Alternatively, you can progress to employment within the health sector straight away. To secure occupational health clearance at the Trust, you will need to obtain a copy of your vaccination history from your GP. We provide the majority of your placement uniform, the only items for this you will need to provide are black trousers and appropriate flat footwear. We will recommend a variety of text books that you could purchase to support you in your studies although copies of these are available within the college library or as E-books however you have the option to purchase your own copy if you wish. You will also need to provide your own writing materials, such as pens, paper and a folder to keep your college work which case be purchased from any supplier therefore prices will vary. You will be allocated a small budget to pay for any College printing costs, however once you have exceeded the limit, you will be liable for any additional printing costs. What will I learn? Industry placement, field trips and guest speakersYou will be provided with a full induction at your industry placement and complete a mandatory training programme. This course features a mandatory 45-day work placement in a healthcare setting over the two years, designed to enhance learning and increase your employability. T Level students at Blackpool Teaching Hospital secure experience on a variety of different wards and areas of the hospital. It is highly likely that the hospital will request any students who attend their setting for an industry placement are fully vaccinated for COVID:19. You will also need a copy of your vaccination history from your GP to gain occupational health clearance. We will invite you to attend relevant field trips and career events, which you could draw from to enhance your CV and university personal statement. This is a full-time course, involving 3 days a week spent at College and an extensive placement at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. We will also expect you to spend at least 3 hours a week on independent learning. At College, teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided to help with completing written assignments. When you start the course we will assign you a progress tutor who will support you throughout your time here. Their role is to help you in setting academic and personal targets, identifying career plans, developing employability skills and monitoring your progress to make sure you realise your full potential. During your three days in college, you will develop practical skills in a weekly clinical skills workshop in our clinical simulation suites. Skills you will develop include: Implementing the therapy support process Carrying out patient assessments Carrying out routine reviews and assessments Working in a multi-disciplinary team and escalating concerns regarding a patient Adapting a patient’s environment Making practical considerations for physical therapy Addressing communication disorders Providing nutrition advice Considering and using appropriate aids/equipment Preparing and manage environment and equipment You will also work with a range of guest speakers from the health and social work sector, including from the NHS and community-based healthcare, and engage with industry-standard equipment such as our Anatomage table. This is a virtual dissection table using bodies donated to science. Modules you will study: You will study a range of modules across the two-year programme. In Year 1 you will study fundamentals of health and science, including: Working in the Health and Science Sector Good Scientific and Clinical Practice Core Science Concepts including human biology and physiology Health and Wellbeing Safeguarding Diseases and disorders of the human body In Year 2 you will study a range of modules linked to therapy and allied health professionals: The role of allied health professionals Models used to manage ill health Strategies, techniques and equipment used by allied health professionals The therapy support process including baseline assessments and interventions How to assess a patient’s needs Limitations of own role and the referral process Reflective practice How will I be assessed? How will I be assessed?In Year 1, you are assessed through a project completed in college in May, followed by two examinations in June. In Year 2, you are assessed through practical assignments completed between March and June. The qualification is dependent on you achieving a total of 315 work placement hours. While on placement, you will shadow a range of allied health professionals at the Trust, which may include radiographers, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. You will contribute to the caring and observe the treatment of patients.
