Mental Health Awareness - Level 1

Summary

The Level 1 Certificate Mental health aims to develop the learners knowledge and understanding of what is meant by mental health, social and personal effects of mental health, people attitudes towards mental health and become aware of the cultural differences in relation to mental heath.

This 1-day course is one of a suite of short CPD courses available over the academic year.

This Level 1 Award in Mental Health will not confirm competence in a job role but will provide an opportunity for learners to develop knowledge and build CPD.

It can also be used to enhance the CV and provide background knowledge for those looking to gain employment in the health and social care sector. Supporting progression to NCFE L2/3 Certificate in Mental Health.

No previous training or experience is required for this programme, but you must be over 19 on the 31 August before the course start date.

What will I learn?

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

How will I learn?

Learners will explore what is meant by the term ‘mental health’ and consider the definition and causes of mental health difficulties. Learners will also explore common perceptions of mental health difficulties and how stereotyping can affect people’s perceptions. They will develop their knowledge of the rights of those who experience mental health difficulties and learn where appropriate support can be found. Learners will also develop their awareness of cultural diversity within mental health issues.

The course is delivered over 1 day from the course start date. 5-hour classroom-based sessions with a specialist course tutor. The tutor will also be available for support and will guide you from the beginning to the completion of your qualification.

Within these sessions there will be tutor delivery, question and answer, discussion, group work tasks and individual tasks. The assessment tasks take the form of an electronic workbook. You will also have access to a Virtual Learning Platform which will provide you with additional resources to support completion of the qualification.
