Maintain Your Alignment Skills as a Qualified Senior Panel Vehicle Technician

Are you a vehicle technician who’s looking to hone their skills in fixing vehicle misalignment? This IMI training course helps you learn how to set up, realign and rectify vehicle misalignment on damaged cars, so you meet the industry standard.

This module is built to help you work in bodyshops that follow the BS10125 standard for quality and safety. You’ll apply your mechanic training to real-work tasks such as mounting vehicles on alignment jigs, measuring against manufacturer data and doing straightening faults using tools and automotive equipment.

Entry Requirements

This course is for experienced technicians who already work in panel repair or alignment settings. You should have a solid foundation in vehicle body repair and alignment. You should also be able to work under your own initiative.

You’ll benefit if you already hold mechanic qualifications or previous IMI training and have alignment workshop exposure.

What You’ll Learn

During this course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Set up a vehicle on an alignment jig and measure its position safely.
  • Compare measured values with manufacturer specifications and identify misalignment.
  • Use approved tools and equipment to rectify misalignment to within correct tolerance.
  • Work with body panels, frames and structures to meet alignment and repair standards.
  • Apply safe work practices in workshop settings for steering, suspension and alignment work.
  • Check data and results to confirm the vehicle is repaired correctly and ready for road use.

How You’ll Learn

You’ll complete hands-on workshop work using alignment jigs and measurement tools. Training is led by IMI-accredited tutors and set up in real automotive training environments. You will practise mechanical alignment tasks and receive guided support to ensure you are ready for assessment.

Our tutors are IMI-accredited assessors and experienced body repair technicians. They specialise in alignment, straightening and vehicle repair standards. They bring practical experience and guidance so you can perform tasks confidently and safely.

How You’ll Be Assessed

Assessment includes:

  • Practical Assessment: You’ll work in a workshop setting to demonstrate your ability to measure and rectify vehicle misalignment.
  • Knowledge Assessment: A short online or written test to check your understanding of alignment setup, measurement and repair standards.
