What You'll Learn

This re-accreditation focuses on demonstrating your current ability rather than learning new content. You’ll show that you can:

  • Prepare and refinish panels to a flawless finish.
  • Apply multi-stage paint systems, including metallic and pearlescent coatings.
  • Blend colour and texture to match existing vehicle paintwork.
  • Polish, inspect, and finish repaired areas to manufacturer quality.
  • Work safely and efficiently, following all relevant IMI training standards.

How You'll Learn

The course is delivered mainly through hands-on assessment in a workshop. You’ll work on real panels and complete practical repair and paint tasks under observation.

Before your assessment, there’s time to review techniques and familiarise yourself with the tools, products, and refinishing systems used in testing.

Expert tutors

Our tutors are IMI-accredited assessors and body repair specialists. They have real experience in vehicle refinishing and panel work. They know the trade and will help you build confidence, refine your techniques, and prepare for your assessment.

How You'll Be Assessed

You’ll complete two parts:

  • Practical Assessment:
    • Carry out several paint and refinishing tasks within set time limits.
    • Show your skill, accuracy, and finish quality on real vehicle panels.
  • Knowledge Test:
    • A short online or written quiz to confirm your understanding of materials, safety, and refinishing processes.
