What will I learn? How will I be assessed? Key information Course SummaryIn this course, we will explore the complex and pressing issue of climate change, its causes, impacts and potential solutions. As one of the most significant challenges facing our planet, you will see how it affects every aspect of our lives from the environment and economy to human health and social dynamics. Designed to provide learners with an introduction to the principles of climate change and environmental awareness, it will equip you with the knowledge to engage in informed discussions and take meaningful action. We will look at the science behind the headlines to gain a deeper understanding what climate change is and explore the interconnectedness between this and other global issues. By the end of the course you will be able to: Define climate change and identify its key causes. Understand the human activities that contribute to global warming. Understand how scientists are monitoring climate change and what criteria they are using to assess the level of environmental damage. Learn about how climate change is affecting ecosystems, biodiversity, weather patterns and sea levels as well as the implications for vulnerable communities around the world. Outline the various strategies being adopted to mitigate the effects of global warming like renewable energies sustainable transport and recycling and what you can do individually to have an positive impact on the emergig environmental crisis. Entry RequirementsThere are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but students will be invited to have a discussion with one of the course tutors to ensure the suitability of the programme for them and to ensure it meets their needs and expectations. Qualification ObtainedCertificate in Understanding Climate Change and Environmental Awareness Industry Placement and Field TripsThere are no work placements or field trips associated with this course. Learning and Teaching MethodsThis course is delivered on site in our industry-leading laboratories and facilities at our Bispham campus. As well as working individually, you will work collaboratively with your peers in group work, presentations and within practical sessions. There is also dedicated individual/self-study time on your course which needs to be supported by your own study out of the classroom sessions, including completing e-learning tasks accessed via the Canvas platform. You are free to use B&FC learning resources for independent study.
