Photography - Level 2

Summary

This qualification provides the opportunity to develop your photography skills further combining practical skills and creative techniques alongside developing a comprehensive understanding of photographic equipment and processes and the photo imaging industry. The qualification will also provide an introduction to commercial photography.

Developing both your technical proficiency and creative adaptation skills, the techniques covered will span studio to location photography, encompassing both portraits to landscapes. You will also receive instruction in the use of digital manipulation software.

The course will support you to consider this as an avenue for employment whether this be within the photography sector or within another role such as sales, marketing, or product based industries. It will also support you to prepare to progress onto linked Level 3 or Foundation qualifications.

Career progression

Our course will cultivate your growing photography skills, preparing you for further study at Level 3 or our foundation course. In turn, this will support you to take your creativity to the next level and prepare you to potentially move into Higher Education.

Should you wish to develop the business side further to establish your own photography business, then you will also be able to undertake further courses at Level 2 and above linked to this.

This is an adult course and you need to be over the age of 19 years to be considered for a place.

This course is designed for people who are new to photography or have some skill and wish to expand these skills.

Some courses are fully funded for adult learners and, for those that aren't, you can apply for Advanced Learner Loan.

Extra costs and equipment

Note taking materials are required for classroom based sessions. Bringing your own camera is encouraged for continued learning outside of sessions, but cameras can be provided for students as needed.

What will I learn?

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

No industry placements is required and there are no planned field trips.

How will I learn?

With a specialist tutor, you will engage in weekly College sessions which will include both classroom based and practical studio based activity.

This combination will allow you to see how increasing your knowledge and understanding of the underpinning principles surrounding the subject then enhances your photography skills and how you could potentially take this further.

The units that you will study are:

  • Explore photographic equipment, techniques, materials and resources
  • Develop and adapt photographic ideas
  • Commercial photography

The qualification is course work based. Alongside your chosen craft project, you will complete a qualification workbook in which you will evidence your growing knowledge and understanding and the progress of your showcase item. This will also include tutor evidence of your progress and will provide a rich and personal record of your learning experience.
