Laboratory Technician - Advanced Apprenticeship Summary Key information What will I learn? How will I learn? Summary Laboratory technicians work across a wide range of organisations, including but not exclusively in chemical, primary and secondary pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, formulated products, nuclear companies; and analytical science services, dental laboratories and educational establishments. Working at the forefront of technology, technicians are primarily responsible for carrying out both routine and one-off laboratory testing, manufacturing where relevant and performing a variety of technical support functions across the organisation. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with the laboratory manager and colleagues, internal departments such as manufacturing, procurement and quality, internal customers such as medical staff, teaching staff and students, external suppliers and customers such as service engineers, delivery drivers, regulatory bodies and inspection teams e.g. HSE. What will I learn?Modules can be changed to suit employer specialisms to some extent, which will be agreed upon creation of the programme. The main qualification requires visits to local scientific employers to complete certain modules. How will I learn? Apprentices will work on day release (unless another format is agreed), spending 1 day at college and 4 days with the employer. The main programme will consist of a mixture of lectures, scientific investigations and workshops whilst being supported by a VLE full of learning resources.
