Summary Students from this programme progress to a range of clinical degrees including nursing, midwifery and paramedic science. You will enjoy a 315-hour placement across both social care and clinical health care, including with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals on the NHS Future Talent Programme and at Clifton Homecare. The course covers all aspects of working in the health and science sector, and includes a substantial work placement from which you will gain valuable practical experience to support your career goals. Successfully complete this course and you'll have the UCAS Tariff points required to progress to higher education (degree-level) qualifications. T Levels are two-year, technical study programmes, designed with employers to give you the skills industry needs. You take just one T Level - equivalent to three A Levels. Unlike A Levels, T Levels provide technical knowledge and skills specific to your preferred career, an industry placement of at least 45 days, Maths, English and Digital skills, as well as a range of clinical skills. Successful students can gain the maximum 168 UCAS points needed to progress to a related degree. Extra costs and equipmentWe provide the majority of your placement uniform, the only items for this you will need to provide are black trousers and appropriate flat footwear. We will recommend a variety of text books that you could purchase to support you in your studies although copies of these are available within the college library or as E-books however you have the option to purchase your own copy if you wish.You will also need to provide your own writing materials, such as pens, paper and a folder to keep your college work which case be purchased from any supplier therefore prices will vary.You will be allocated a small budget to pay for any College printing costs, however once you have exceeded the limit, you will be liable for any additional printing costs. Essential skills: English and MathsAll school leavers at B&FC are encouraged to continue developing their English and maths skills as higher ability in both these subjects is linked to long-term career success and increased earning potential - irrespective of how well you performed at GCSE. If, however, you achieve a GCSE Grade 3 or less in either subject, you will also have the opportunity to work towards re-sitting these to enhance your paper-based qualifications. This won’t delay your career journey because you will be undertaking this programme of study at the same time as your chosen subject. Industry placement, field trips and guest speakersThe qualification is dependent on you achieving a total of 315 work placement hours. While on placement, you will shadow various types of roles, which can include healthcare assistants, consultants, porters and nurses.You will contribute to the caring of patients and will support in the treatment of patients and service users, including providing some aspects of personal care.This course features a mandatory 45-day work placement in a healthcare setting over the two years, designed to enhance learning and increase your employability. You will attend two industry placements during your two-year programme.At Clifton Homecare, you will shadow one-to-one a carer or nurse, providing care in people’s homes. You will need to be able to travel to St Annes by 7:30am to start your shift.At Blackpool Teaching Hospital, you will secure experience on a variety of different wards and areas of the hospital, which can include Acute Medical Unit, the cardiac centre, gastroenterology, respiratory and endocrinology. At Blackpool Trust, you will be provided with a full induction and complete a mandatory training programme.It is highly likely that both employers will request any students who attend their setting for an industry placement are vaccinated for COVID:19. You will also need a copy of your vaccination history from your GP to gain occupational health clearance at the hospital.We will also invite you to attend relevant field trips and career events, which you could draw from to enhance your CV and personal statement. During your three days in college, you will develop practical skills in a weekly clinical skills workshop in our clinical simulation suites.Skills you will develop include:First aidCommunicationPerson-centred careTaking physiological measurements e.g. oxygen levels and blood pressureWorking as part of a multi-disciplinary teamMaintaining confidentialityMoving and handlingYou will also work with a range of guest speakers from the health and social work sector, including from the NHS and community-based healthcare, and engage with industry-standard equipment such as our Anatomage table. This is a virtual dissection table using bodies donated to science.This is a full-time course, involving 3 days a week spent at College and 2 days a week on work placement, such as at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. We will also expect you to spend at least 3 hours a week on independent learning.At College, teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided to help with completing written assignments. When you start the course we will assign you a progress tutor who will support you throughout your time here.
