Entry Requirements

This qualification should only be taken after completing Unit EV3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement. It’s also recommended that you have at least six months of experience working with electric or hybrid vehicles, or you can complete a Learner Eligibility Form showing proof of related or relevant experience.

This is a commercial course, the fees for which are displayed above and must be paid at the time of booking.

Extra costs and equipment

You should bring footwear suitable for an automotive practical workshop environment. All other equipment/resources you require for this course are provided by B&FC at no extra cost.

What You’ll Learn

You will learn how to inspect, test, and repair high-voltage systems in electric and hybrid vehicles. The course includes:

  • Understanding electric and hybrid systems: Learn how high-voltage batteries, motors, and inverters work together.
  • Diagnosing system faults: Use specialist tools to locate and fix complex electrical and electronic problems.
  • Testing and measuring components: Carry out safe checks on batteries, power cables, and control circuits.
  • Repairing and replacing parts: Follow approved methods for repairing high-voltage systems and related components.
  • Safety and best practice: Apply strict health and safety procedures when working with electric vehicles.
  • Electric vehicle technology: Study the latest developments in EV design, performance, and energy storage.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to diagnose and repair high-voltage faults and support the transition to clean automotive technology.

You’ll learn through a mix of classroom lessons, workshop demonstrations, and hands-on practical training. Training takes place in a fully equipped automotive workshop using real electric and hybrid vehicles. You’ll also complete self-study activities and online learning through the IMI training platform.
