Vehicle Maintence and Repair (Female Only) - Level 1

Summary

This female-only evening course has been developed exclusively for women who would like to learn the basics of motor vehicle maintenance and repair. Teaching key skills including changing wheels, checking tyre pressures, ensuring correct levels for water, oil and brake fluid and much more besides, this practical programme will give participants the confidence to maintain their own cars and tackle minor issues in between professional servicing and repair.

It has been designed both as a practical course for students who want to tackle small scale jobs for themselves and also as a springboard for those who would like to pursue a career in vehicle maintenance and who would like to progress onto our higher level programmes. Created specifically for female students who might feel more comfortable learning in a women-only environment, the course also aims to build confidence, communication and resilience whilst working within a team and also as an individual.

As well as the female-only course, we offer the same course to a mixed gender group if that would be preferable.

There are no industry placements or field trips planned for this course.

How will I learn?

The course introduces students to basic skills in the following areas:

  • Checking fluid levels
  • Diagnosing key faults
  • Dealing with flat tyres and punctures
  • Basic servicing skills
  • Health and safety

Teaching on the course is largely practical in nature with tutors demonstrating techniques and giving students the opportunity to practise them individually and as part of a team. Tutors then support students on a one-to-one basis giving advice and feedback during practical exercises. There is some theory work to allow participants to gain an understanding of materials and their attributes and key information on health and safety issues both in domestic settings and in the construction industry more generally.
