Matthew Leslie

Biography

After completing a degree in business, Matthew gained a full-time position in industry in order to gain relevant up-to-date experience. When he began his teacher training, he continued to keep his skills current by working in industry.

Since joining B&FC, Matthew has worked across level 1, 2 and 3 programmes; his focus has been on business and inspiring students to reach their goals, whether that’s progressing to the next programme, to higher education or into employment.

Watching his students succeed has inspired him to continue his own learning and development by studying an MSc Blended and Online Education, a course that is supporting him in enhancing the learning experience for students.

Expert In...

I currently teach Business (Further Education), and focus on team development, leadership, project management, and resource management.

I believe that studying business can lead you into a variety of industries and equips you with the transferable skills you will need in the workplace.

I have previously taught employability skills on Gateway programmes, supporting students to develop the attributes needed to succeed in the work environment.

Industry Background

My background in the catering industry gave me the opportunity to study team development in the workplace. I have also worked as an enrichment officer, a role that allowed me to develop event organisation and management skills.

This time in industry made me realise I wanted a career helping people to realise their potential, and I believe teaching at B&FC allows me to do this. My industry experience allows me to provide students with up-to-date knowledge and skills.

Professional Activities

I undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the fields of both business and education, which allows me to deliver up-to-date knowledge and skills in the workroom.

Why B&FC?

Teaching at B&FC provides me with constant challenges, which is allowing me to grow and develop as a teacher. This in turn helps me to create the optimum learning experience for my students.

The College is also recognised for high standards of teaching and learning, evidenced through its Ofsted Grade 1 status and QAA commendations. I like the community feel of the College, which inspires students to achieve their full potential.
