Karen Walch

Biography

Blackpool-born Karen graduated in Fashion and Textiles in 1981. Since then, she has been actively involved in the fashion and clothing industry. She owned and ran her own shop, which supported other practitioners; she also worked for many years in the wedding costume sector.

Karen joined Blackpool and The Fylde College in 1996 as a technician within Performing Arts, charged with making and sourcing costumes and accessories. More recently she has supported the fashion department’s further and higher education provision, assuming the role of Specialist Practitioner just one year ago.

Industry Background

I have been involved in textiles and fashion since graduating from my degree in 1981. This has included owning and running my own shop, which also supported other practitioners, and also working in the wedding costume industry for many years.

Professional Activities

I have worked at Blackpool and The Fylde College since 1996, firstly working as a technician, making and sourcing costumes and accessories for the Performing Arts Department. Latterly I have supported the College’s fashion and costume provision and I recently became Specialist Practitioner.
