Industry Background

I started off as a junior in a very busy non-appointment salon called Kiran Mullins within an Asda store. I completed my Level 2 Apprenticeship while working there, undertaking tasks ranging from cleaning U-bends to reception work.

I then moved to a town-centre salon called Zig Zag, where I completed my Level 3 Apprenticeship alongside creating hair looks for hair magazines and demonstrating hair styles at hairdressing conventions and for local TV.

Stylist roles at a busy Chorley salon called Headlines and Toni & Guy at Lancaster followed. After organising and creating a hair collection show I was promoted to top stylist. I then completed my Assessors qualification, which meant I could teach and assess trainees. I was then appointed Assistant Manager.

Shortly afterwards I was offered a management position at a neighbouring salon called Hair Zone. I took the role and continued to develop but missed the teaching and assessing I am so passionate about.

It was then I decided to become a work-based assessor at Blackpool and The Fylde College. Eleven years later and I am still here, teaching, learning and assessing as Programme Leader for Hairdressing and Barbering.

Professional Activities

I have recently been to Spain to complete five days in industry, which was extremely exciting and challenging. I continually attend events and training to keep up-to-date with current trends and teaching methods, which I bring back to B&FC to make enhance my students’ learning experience.

Why B&FC?

I love working for Blackpool and The Fylde College, a Grade 1 college - it is continually changing with the times.
