Senior Tutor: Learning & Teaching
I have worked in various educational sectors for more than 20 years and worked at B&FC for 10 years. I have taught on various Early years and health care programmes where many of the students have progressed to becoming primary teachers, early years practitioners, nannies, au pairs care assistants and nurses.
I am currently a parent governor on a local school governing board, this continues to support my knowledge within the primary education sector, developing and implementing the curriculum along with the financial and policy making aspects of running a school.
Previously I have volunteered for the miscarriage association within the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas supporting families, fundraising and highlighting the support needed for families around baby loss.

I have over 20 years’ experience working in a variety of educational settings which have consisted of Residential care for children with additional needs and disabilities, nurseries, primary schools and children’s centres.
Once qualifying as an early years practitioner I worked in a local primary school as a teaching assistant, following my degree I worked in Sure Start Children’s Centres in Preston as a Family Support Worker then developing a childminding quality assurance scheme with links to the National Childminding Association.
I became an education team leader for the children’s centre where I co-ordinated early years provision and parenting classes for the local community.
Following this I became a children’s centre manager in Blackburn before coming to B&FC.
I am now a senior tutor for learning, teaching and assessment which is where I have developed an interest for supporting students to learn and pedagogical approaches.
Through industry updating, volunteering and being a school governor I have continued to keep up to date with changes within the educational curriculum and sector.
As part of my senior tutor role I schedule professional development for the team weekly and deliver professional development sessions across college. This has also enabled me to conduct learning walk activities where I have had the privilege to observe excellent practice to support students in their own progression.
Through my own professional development I have started a MA in Educational Leadership at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Having worked at B&FC for 10 years I can honestly say I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. I am fortunate to work with an amazing, supportive team where coming to work is an enjoyable experience.
B&FC invest in their staff through Professional Development and Industry Updating opportunities to ensure we are the most up to date, skilled practitioners to share this with our students.
Be the success of your own learning journey.
