Studied BA Hons Management at B&FC • Adult Learner/Career Change (Age: 35) / Graduated July 2019

My Story

“Before coming back to university, I was managing a residential home, and I felt that I needed to further my management skills. Not only is Blackpool and the Fylde College a good college but also the closest to my home, which is why I chose to come here over anywhere else. I used to be a Sergeant instructor with the army cadet force and so this also helped form the basis of management skills quite nicely.”

My B&FC

“The small classes made interaction with tutors easier, and the tutors were always so supportive, laid-back and never made anything too stressful. I studied two days a week in my first two years, and one day a week in my third year, which fit quite well with my life, especially because my boss changed my work rotas to fit with university. The online library was helpful to do my work and the careers team were great in helping me to write my CV and prepare for employment. I definitely made the right decision coming back to university, and it was much easier than I thought because there was a nice mixture of ages in all of my classes. The course pushed me sometimes but it never got too overwhelming. I would advise anyone starting that they should make sure they start their dissertation early!”

My Next Move...

“Now I am planning on looking for a graduate position in management of some sort to put my studies to use, but ultimately I dream of being an area manager in retail.”

My Opportunities

“Because I wanted to focus solely on my degree, I didn’t do any placements or work experience, but like I said the careers team were great helping me with my CV.”
