"I did not apply myself and reach my potential at secondary school and realised this after spending multiple years in the retail industry. At the time I was training to become a manager but decided that I was completing this training for financial reasons and not because it was a career path that I was passionate about.
Computing had always been a passion of mine from around five years old. After serious consideration I stopped my management training and embarked upon a level 3 BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners (Software Development) at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College. I achieved flawless results throughout the diploma, achieving a distinction in every module and leading to a triple distinction grade upon completion. I spent the next few years working in the retail industry, before moving to Blackpool and signing up for the FdSc Interactive Media Development degree (now known as FdSc Web Technologies and Digital Media)."
"Life at B&FC has been a fantastic experience and I have gained friends for life during my time here. The College degree courses being accredited by Lancaster University was a major selling point for me, as Lancaster are currently rated in the UK’s top 10 universities. The content delivered throughout the past three years of my course has been engaging and enjoyable, providing me with the knowledge and tools required to excel. The tutors at the College are fun, down-to-earth, knowledgeable and always approachable to discuss any issues that may arise. Team-based activities and presentation opportunities are present throughout the course and I found that these activities have helped develop my communication and presentation skills. I achieved a distinction with a letter of commendation from Lancaster in my foundation degree and a first-class honours degree."
My Next Move..."To undertake and pass the Level 7 PGCE course at Blackpool and The Fylde College. This will allow me to begin my career in education and secure a position as a Computing Lecturer. "
"During the foundation stage of my degree I completed two industry placements: the first as a Teaching Assistant at the College, assisting and shadowing current lecturers in the Computing Department; and as a Web Developer for a local charity, redeveloping their website. I relished these opportunities and while it was a daunting prospect to teach for the first time, it was also an eye-opening view of my planned future career in education.
The College also provided me with the opportunity to present my dissertation at its Higher Education Symposium and at the British Conference for Undergraduate Research 2019."
