Studied BA Hons Family Support and Wellbeing at B&FC • Adult Learner/Career Change (Age: 29) / Graduated July 2019
“I worked elsewhere before and fancied a complete career change! I looked online at the B&FC website and the course description seemed to fit me perfectly because I wanted to work in family support. I also wasn’t completely sure on what I wanted to do specifically within that sector and so I thought doing this course would help me figure it out.”
“The classes were a perfect size of about 30 people. It meant that the class was big enough to have class discussions, but small enough to feel individually supported by tutors. The tutors were very supportive of issues within and outside college. I had some family issues that the tutors were always happy and willing to help me through it. I studied one day a week during my course which fit really well as I could then still work and look after my children. Both the course and the tutors pushed me to my limit and helped me to reach my potential and learn many new skills throughout my time here. The resources such as the library are brilliant, the HELMS team are so helpful and I always felt in a good learning environment. Despite being an older student, I always felt there was a good mix of ages in the classes and the course was started from the basics and slowly got more difficult, so you never felt too out of your depth. Coming back to university was the best decision I ever made!”
My Next Move...“I am coming back to get my PGCE because, after all the brilliant tutors and help I received, I’ve decided I’d quite like to be on the teaching end of things and do what they did for me.”
“I did a voluntary placement during my course to add to my academic achievements. The guest speakers and workshops were also interesting and great to attend. When I was unsure of what to do, the tutors were always there to reply to my questions quickly, which is especially important when complying with deadlines.”
