T Levels: Give Your Teenager a Head Start
Academically bright and with a career in mind? A T Level could be your teenager's best choice after GCSEs.
A Career‑focused Alternative to A Levels
Choosing the right post‑16 pathway is one of the most important decisions you and your teenager will make. T Levels are a nationally recognised qualification designed to combine academic learning with real‑world experience, giving young people the skills, confidence and clarity they need for their next step.
At Blackpool and The Fylde College, T Levels offer a clear, structured route into skilled employment, apprenticeships or degree-level education, backed by employers and developed to meet real workforce needs.
What is a T Level?
T Levels are two‑year, full‑time qualifications for 16–19 year olds, developed in collaboration with employers and equivalent to three A Levels. This means they carry the same UCAS points value and are recognised by universities and employers alike.
Each T Level is built around:
- 80% classroom learning at college
- 20% industry placement, including a minimum 45‑day placement with a real employer
This unique blend ensures students don’t just learn theory, they apply it in the workplace, gaining insight into professional environments and expectations before they leave education.
"Much of our engineering workforce qualified through programmes at B&FC and we see the benefit of a local college providing quality learning opportunities."

Student Case Study - Tia
Tia has just completed her T Level in Primary Teaching at B&FC and was delighted to find out that she had achieved a Distinction (equivalent to 3 As at A Level) when the final results came out. This was especially pleasing for Tia who had studied the first year of her course elsewhere and nearly failed.
At B&FC, however, she found the tutors truly inspirational and particularly enjoyed her T Level placement at a local school where she was able to put so much of what she'd learnt into practice and also acquire numerous practical skills from the teachers there.
Tia is now off to study a degree in primary education at university with a place guaranteed by her T Level success. Asked whether she'd recommend the qualifcation to others, Tia didn't hesitate:
"I'd 100% recommend T Levels to anyone who was thinking of doing one."
