Student Case Study: Jack Durrant

“I originally went to do A levels but they just weren’t for me. I ended up coming to Blackpool and The Fylde College and chose to do a T level and it was so much better. It felt like I finally had a path.”
Jack may have set off down the path to studying A levels, but as his experience proved, that doesn’t mean you have to stick to something if it isn’t working out for you. Switching to Blackpool and The Fylde College and moving over to a T level qualification proved to be the perfect solution for Jack, who clearly felt much more comfortable pursuing a course which had a clearly defined career path associated with it.
Having finished his T level, Jack certainly didn’t waste any time, He approached a number of construction companies to see if any of them would consider taking him on as a degree apprenticeship and was delighted when West Lancs Group, a local company offering Mechanical and Electrical Engineering services to the construction industry invited him for an interview. Jack must have made a great first impression as he was invited back for a taster day and offered an apprenticeship on the spot.
“They asked me to come in on a Wednesday and it was like you can start straightaway so I’m now in nine to five every day and it’s all going really well.”
Asked about his plans for the future, Jack was looking forward to getting as much experience as possible across various aspects of the construction industry before making a final decision, but hoped to be involved in quantity surveying in some capacity.
