George turns T Level placement into full-time career with DWP

Former St George’s School pupil George Van Deurs Goss is heading straight into his chosen career after his T Level industry placement at Blackpool and The Fylde College helped him secure a full-time job with DWP Digital.

George achieved a Merit in his Cyber Security T Level and will start work in Network Engineering with DWP Digital on 25 August.

He chose the T Level because it offered specialist learning in an area he was genuinely interested in, combined with the opportunity to gain substantial experience in the workplace.

That decision paid off when George completed an industry placement with DWP Digital. He enjoyed the experience so much that when the organisation offered him a permanent position, he jumped at the opportunity.

George said: “I was at DWP Digital from October to March. I had a great time. I was offered a job there and I start at the end of August.”

His new role will see him working in Network Engineering, helping maintain the infrastructure used by Jobcentres, including ensuring internet connectivity and systems supporting payments continue to operate reliably.

For George, it demonstrates one of the biggest advantages of choosing a T Level at B&FC, the chance to combine specialist study with meaningful experience for a major employer.

Asked what he would say to a Year 11 student choosing between different routes, George was unequivocal: “T Level. T Level. Every time.”

He added: “It helps you get a job. Employers certainly look for it. You get the experience that you wouldn’t usually get, and that stands you in good stead.”

George also praised his experience at B&FC, describing it as a “really very good learning environment”.

And when asked what his dream career would be, George had a simple answer: “I think that’s what I’ve got.”
