At Blackpool and The Fylde College we’re proud to celebrate the achievements of our colleagues and students who represent the values of lifelong learning and professional development.

We would like to introduce you to Laura, Client Relationship Manager at the college who is in the final year of her Chartered Management (CMI) Degree Apprenticeship.

As a Client Relationship Manager within the Business Development team, Laura’s main responsibility is to support large organisations in identifying and providing effective learning and development pathways. From apprenticeships at all levels and commercial training courses to funded projects and bespoke training programmes, Laura works closely with employers to align their strategic growth and succession planning with the right educational opportunities.

"My knowledge of the college's offerings expands daily," Laura shared. "Our curriculum is ever-evolving based on employer feedback, ensuring we remain at the forefront of industry needs. Understanding business requirements and the impact of training and upskilling is essential in supporting our employers effectively."

Through her apprenticeship, Laura has gained invaluable insights into leadership and team dynamics, which she believes are crucial to any organisation's success. "The knowledge I've gained throughout my apprenticeship has been transformational," Laura explained. "Investing in team development and understanding the dynamics the return on investment for any training provided. It all starts with effective leadership."

After completing her A levels, university wasn’t a feasible option due to financial constraints and her desire to jump straight into her career. Years later, she returned to education in her 40s, a decision she describes as one of the best she’s ever made.

"Returning to academia was daunting but the support from my tutors has been amazing. They understand that apprentices like me often balance family, career and other responsibilities. Their encouragement has been invaluable."

For Laura, lifelong learning isn’t just a philosophy—it’s a way of life. "Age should never be a barrier to advancement," she said. "This belief drives not only my personal ambitions but also how I support my clients."

As she approaches the end of her apprenticeship and prepares to receive her degree, Laura is looking ahead to further opportunities within the college. "Having been both an apprentice and an employee at B&FC, I believe I have a unique perspective that can be a real asset in senior roles within the college. My journey has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact."

Laura’s story highlights the power of apprenticeships to enable professional growth, no matter your stage of life or career.
