A Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) mature student earned himself a front row seat at one of the UK’s most sought-after music-industry development events.
Jason Shuttleworth, who is studying a Level 6 BA (Hons) Creative Practice (Music Production), beat off competition from students nationwide to land his prized invitation to attend the Abbey Road Amplify event.
This annual programme brings together leading music producers, engineers, artist managers and film/TV composers – giving emerging talent direct access to professional practice, high-level insights and real-world career pathways across the industry.
The event took place at Aviva Studios, part of Factory International in Manchester: a venue with strong links to the city’s cultural heritage and iconic Factory Records label.
Jason, 49, previously completed the HNC/D Music programme at B&FC and was selected for his commitment to developing advanced skills in music production and audio engineering.
Amplify offered him a wide range of exciting industry-focused sessions, including:
- A track-breakdown masterclass with producer Rich Turvey
- A session on moving from home-studio production to commercial professional work with WhyJay
- A seminar on songwriting and creative process led by John Robb
- A discussion on artist management with Rebecca Boulton (manager of New Order)
- Panels on career development for studio engineers and on composing for film, TV and advertising with Benson Taylor & Adina Nelu.
Jason said: “The Amplify session with Benson Taylor and Adina Nelu was a standout moment for me.”
“Hearing their approach to composing for film and TV gave me a clearer sense of what the industry expects – and it genuinely strengthened my confidence in pursuing a career in soundtrack composition.”
Thomas Durkan, B&FC’s Programme Leader for HE Music, added: “B&FC has a long track record of creating strong pathways for creative students and we’re absolutely delighted that Jason had the chance to experience this unforgettable event, run by Abbey Road at Aviva Studios.”
“It was a priceless opportunity that provided him with invaluable insight into professional workflows and collaborative practice, directly supporting his academic projects in production, mixing, and soundtrack composition.”
