Graduate Joseph Macari Triumphs with Prestigious IET Engineering and Technology Technician Award

We are thrilled to announce that Joseph Macari, one of our outstanding graduates, has been recognised with the IET Engineering and Technology Technician Award.

To be recognised by such a distinguished body is a remarkable achievement, and Joseph’s journey to this accolade is nothing short of inspirational.

Starting as an eager apprentice, Joseph progressed to become an Engineering Group Leader at Heysham 1 Nuclear Power Station - one of the UK’s most vital energy sites. His role has been critical in resolving complex technical issues, ensuring the safety and efficiency of this essential facility. It’s a shining example of his impressive technical and leadership skills.

But Joseph’s impact goes far beyond his day-to-day duties. He’s a passionate advocate for the next generation of engineers, helping with tours at Heysham 1 to give students and visitors a unique glimpse into the world of nuclear power. His enthusiasm for STEM is contagious, igniting curiosity and inspiring young minds to consider careers in engineering. Joseph’s commitment to mentoring others is what makes him a true role model and an ambassador for the industry.

A highlight of Joseph’s achievements was his BEng dissertation, where he tackled a critical issue with obsolete protection relays. Combining the coding and electronics skills honed during his degree with the practical knowledge gained throughout his career, he designed, built, and rigorously tested an innovative, low-cost electronic solution.
