Students from Blackpool School of Arts are set to exhibit their work at a dedicated London showcase as part of a major final-year industry project.

The group will be unveiling their work to the public in Holborn this week when they present a new exhibition, CORPUS, in a central London district known for its cultural and media links.

CORPUS, brings together the full cohort of BA (Hons) Creative Practice students, who will display their work responding to the theme “the human form; vessel, memory, legacy.”

This ambitious project is the culmination of their major final-year project which is designed to prepare students for entering the creative industries and has required them to align their individual works into a unified, professional exhibition.

As part of their Real-World module, a group of 23 students have been working collaboratively to plan, curate and deliver this public exhibition from scratch.

That has seen them taking on full responsibility for securing the venue, fundraising, marketing, creating and assembling the work, plus installing the show and hosting the event – mirroring the real industry demands placed on emerging creative professionals.

Mark Johnstone, Higher Education Curriculum Manager at Blackpool and The Fylde College, said: “The Corpus Exhibition is an excellent opportunity for Blackpool-based students to showcase their talent in the bustling centre of London’s creative scene.” “This experience for the students is invaluable – helping them to develop their project leadership, collaboration and curation skills to plan and execute an exhibition in a challenging timeframe.

“At its core, our new BA (Hons) Creative Practice course has the ethos that students can get to develop industry-ready skills that we know employers want to see in graduates – and that will be evidenced in this exciting exhibition.”

Caprice Minto, BA (Hons) Creative Practice student, said: “It’s really exciting to be showing our work in London.”

“This opportunity has introduced me to so many new processes and ways of working that I hadn’t really considered as part of my practice before.

“It’s really opened my eyes to what is possible and the different ways I can widen my network outside of Blackpool, while still working here and building a career for myself once I graduate.”

The CORPUS exhibition is taking place on Thursday 11 December (6-9pm) at 47 Theobalds Road, London*.
