General news

This summer, Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) proudly announced its outstanding T Level results in Health, emerging as one of the top performers across the UK. The college saw a significant increase in the average UMS (Uniform Mark Scale) score for each learner, further cementing its reputation for excellence in technical education.

B&FC was one of the first colleges in the UK to offer T Levels, and since their introduction, these qualifications have continued to thrive. T Levels are equivalent to three A Levels and provide a unique combination of classroom learning and 45 days of industrial placement. This approach equips students with crucial on-the-job experience, working alongside industry professionals in their chosen fields.

One of the success stories from this year is Hollie, a Health T Level student who completed the NHS Future Talent Programme. After achieving her qualification from Blackpool and The Fylde College, Hollie is now set to begin an apprenticeship to train as a paramedic—just one of the many progression opportunities available to T Level graduates.

Reflecting on her experience, Hollie said: “The placement made me want to be a paramedic even more than before. Being able to get the experience and carry out tasks but also learn from the medical staff and paramedics was really valuable.”

Like all T Level students, Hollie benefited from invaluable work placement opportunities, acquiring industry knowledge, practical skills, and real-world experience that will be essential in her future career.

Due to the success of its T Level Health students, B&FC has been invited to share best practices with other nursing T Level providers across England. The college will be contributing insights on delivery strategies and reflecting on the overall approach to these pioneering qualifications.
