B&FC named among North West organisations achieving Silver Employer Recognition Scheme status
Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) has been awarded Silver status under the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), recognising its strong commitment to supporting the armed forces community.
Announced on 8 June, the award places B&FC amongst just 42 organisations across the North West to receive the recognition this year: highlighting the college’s continued progress as a forces-friendly employer.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme celebrates organisations that demonstrate outstanding support for service personnel, veterans and their families.
Silver status acknowledges employers who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and are actively delivering on their pledges through inclusive policies and practical support.
B&FC signed the Armed Forces Covenant in the 2025/26 academic year, committing to ensure that those who serve or have served in the armed forces are treated fairly and supported in their careers.
Since then, colleagues across the college have played a key role in strengthening this commitment – from supporting reservists to inclusive policies and creating opportunities for individuals connected to the armed forces community.
The recognition also comes at a significant time as the college it develops its role as a Defence Technical Education Centre (DTEC), further enhancing links between education, skills and the defence sector.
Alun Francis, Chief Executive at B&FC, said: “We are delighted that B&FC has attained Silver status today.”
“This represents an important step in our journey towards becoming an exemplary forces-friendly organisation, particularly as we step into our new role as a Defence Technical Education Centre.
“Well done to all colleagues involved in this achievement – and we are not intending to stop there. Planning is already underway to achieve Gold status next year and to further strengthen our support for the armed forces community.”
