Andrew Sproston was presented on Tuesday with a £5,000 bursary to bring his filmmaking dreams to life.

An aspiring filmmaker found himself in the spotlight winning a £5,000 bursary to help bring his dreams to life.

B&FC student Andrew Sproston was presented on Tuesday with the first-ever Peter Roberts Collab Group Bursary in recognition of his educational achievements and commercial ambition.

Andrew, who earlier this year earned a Level 3 Triple Diploma in Media Production and Technology, has just started a BA (Hons) Filmmaking degree at University Campus.

He hopes to use the £5,000 bursary to buy video equipment for producing a documentary showcasing summer events across our town.

Thrilled Andrew said: “For the past three years it has at times been a real struggle, working hard just to afford living and coming to college.

“Balancing working nights in a challenging environment then coming to college during the day has been tough but I’m proud of what I’ve achieved.

"This bursary will really help tip the balance in favour of pursuing my ambitions rather than just staying afloat.

“It will give me the time and resources to pursue my passions both on my degree and in taking up freelance work, both of which will hopefully lead to a fulfilling career."

The Peter Roberts Collab Group Bursary was created in memory of former Principal of Stockport College and Leeds City College, Peter Roberts, who passed away in December 2015.

Peter McCann, executive chairman of bursary sponsor The Skills Network, said: "The Skills Network are proud to have worked with the Collab Group in sponsoring this award to celebrate the outstanding work of the further education sector, the memory and legacy of our dear friend and former colleague Peter Roberts, and the outstanding achievement of Andrew Sproston by assisting him on the next stage of his career."

Shelagh Legrave OBE DL, Chair of the Collab Group and Chief Executive of Chichester College Group, said: "Peter Roberts was an exceptional principal and the Chair of 157 Group from 2012 to 2014.

"He was passionate about students achieving to their highest potential and Collab Group is delighted to present this award to its first recipient."
