More than 1,100 graduates received degrees in a stunning ceremony at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, watched by several thousand family members, friends and proud Blackpool and the Fylde staff.
Some 140 graduates passed with first-class honours. Among this year’s graduates was the first cohort to complete a Blackpool and the Fylde College awarded programme; the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Performance Science, following the college being granted Foundation Degree awarding powers in 2016.
The degrees were conferred by Prof Dame Sue Black, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) at Lancaster University.
The Guest of Honour for the ceremonies was Dawn Childs, Group Engineering Director, Merlin Entertainment Group PLC.
Dawn was the first female head of engineering at a major international airport and has been instrumental in developing women in engineering as well as supporting initiatives to bring more women into the sector.
Principal and chief executive of Blackpool and the Fylde College Bev Robinson addressed the students. She said: “It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Blackpool and the Fylde College 2019 graduation ceremonies.
It is an honour to preside over these ceremonies, which represent a culmination of your hard work and are a fitting celebration of your achievement.

“I would like to thank our employer partners, a number of whom have generously given their time to be here today.
“Their presence reflects our joint commitment to ensuring our students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to meet constantly-evolving industry needs.
“We are very proud this year as we see the first cohort of our own foundation degrees conferred at the second ceremony.
“I am confident that I speak for everyone at Blackpool and the Fylde College when I say heartfelt congratulations to you and we wish you every success in all your future endeavours.”
