It's the ultimate reflective assignment for Blackpool and The Fylde College students, who are bringing sparkle back to Blackpool seafront by refurbishing the world-famous mirror ball.

B&FC students are taking on another huge challenge - bringing the town's celebrated mirror ball back from the ravages of salty sea air.

It's not an unfamiliar challenge for the college - in fact you could say it's come full circle.

Blackpool School of Arts students took on this challenge 10 years ago. And now they're getting their ball back - with thousands of tiles to lift its lustre.

Of the town's second-most famous ball - behind the one that could be taking Blackpool Football Club to the League One play-offs - Blackpool School of Arts’ curriculum manager Andy Walker said: “We’re talking 45,000 shiny tiles.”

Andy reflected on the mammoth task ahead. “This isn’t a quick update; it’s going to take weeks to restore our famous mirror ball to its former glory.”
