9 myths about degrees
Myth #1: Degrees don't lead to a job.
Fact: 9 out of 10 B&FC graduates are in work or study within six month of graduating.
Myth #2: Doing a degree with a family/job is impossible.
Fact: Condensed timetables make it easy to balance study with family and work. You could also access up to £20,000 a year in non-repayable financial support.
Myth #3: A university degree is better than a college degree.
Fact: Most of our degrees are awarded by Lancaster University, allowing you to graduate with a UK top 10 university qualification (rated Gold standard in the Teaching Excellence Framework).
Myth #4: Degrees are for young people.
Fact: Most of B&FC’s degree students are what we call ‘mature’. Age is no barrier to doing a degree.
Myth #5: You need formal qualifications to do a degree.
Fact: If you have relevant work/voluntary experience, that counts instead of formal qualifications.
Myth #6: It costs too much to do a degree.
Fact: There’s nothing to pay upfront and you can access tuition and maintenance loans as well as funding you don’t need to pay back.
Myth #7: A degree takes up too much time.
Fact: Onsite and online attendance can be as little as just 1 or 2 days a week.
Myth #8: Degrees are for ‘academic’ people.
Fact: Passion and determination are what really count. We’ll support you to develop the study skills you need.
Myth #9: Degree study is lots of people in a lecture theatre taking notes.
Fact: It’s rare to have more than 20 students in a class. Learning is varied and delivered in a safe environment with lots of 1-2-1 support.
