LSFC Students Prepare for Big DrawPotential Oxbridge applicants from Fylde have been getting a taste of university life.

Students from Lytham Sixth Form College spent two days as guests of Sidney Sussex College Cambridge.

During their visit they enjoyed a tour of the university, experienced a law and computer science lecture and learnt from the admissions team what makes an applicant stand out.

Tutor Nina Nichol, who accompanied the seven students on the visit, said the trip was really worthwhile, with a number now seriously thinking about applying.

“These familiarisation visits are offered to areas with low levels of applications to Oxford or Cambridge to demonstrate how accessible they actually are,” she said.

“They really provide a taste of university life and the College is delighted to have been able to offer this opportunity to our students.

A level student Anthony Ford, 17, who is looking to start a degree next year, commented: "I really enjoyed the trip to Cambridge University – it was informative, useful and fun too. It’s helped me gain an insight into life at one of the world’s top-performing universities.

“The visit is a fine example of a way for students to develop a better understanding of higher education and what it is like and I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to have visited.

“Current university students were welcoming and showed us around Sidney Sussex College, giving plenty of details about life in the college.

“As well as that, the important aspects such as experiencing a lecture and being informed about the admissions/application process, were equally brilliant and very beneficial.

“Overall it was an extremely enjoyable visit and I’d love to see more things like this in the future.”

Lytham Sixth Form College provides high achieving school leavers with a genuine college experience and a choice of either A levels or level 3 Extended Diplomas, as a route through to university and graduate careers.
