The paint has dried, the computers are switched on and the first cohort of students have successfully been inducted into Lytham Sixth Form College.

The new College, on Church Road, officially opened its doors in last week and students were given a first look at the place where they will spend the next two years studying A Levels and equivalent Extended Diplomas.

Students were welcomed by a team of staff eager to make the Northwest’s newest sixth form centre a success. The groups enjoyed a programme of activities designed to familiarise them with their new surroundings including a tour of the teaching facilities, social learning spaces, learning resource centre, cafeteria and Starbucks. Induction sessions included ice-breakers and teambuilding events as the students adapted to their environment and made new friends.

To commemorate the inaugural year, all year 12 students were also invited to sign a Graffiti Wall, which will become a permanent fixture in the College’s reception area.

Head of Lytham Sixth Form College, Mandy Pritchard, deemed induction week a success. She said: “It has been encouraging to see so many students with excellent results enrolling onto our A Level and Extended Diploma courses over the last few weeks. The first induction week at Lytham Sixth Form College was a huge success and we’ve had some lovely feedback from the students. The campus is looking fantastic following a programme of upgrades and improvements and all staff and students are now looking forward to continuing their Lytham Sixth journeys.”

Following her induction, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care student Chloe Fletcher said: “I thought induction was fantastic and I'm genuinely excited to come back to college. The staff introduced themselves and genuinely took an interest in each of us. They were so nice and helpful and fully answered every question I had about the college or things related to my course. I am so glad Lytham Sixth Form College opened up, I've met new friends and I can’t wait to come into college and learn.”
