Blackpool and The Fylde College has cemented its reputation as the leading provider of training for the tourism industry after sealing an exclusive partnership with Thomas Cook and Co-operative Travel across Blackpool and The Fylde coast.
The deal means the College will now exclusively supply students for work placements in the tourism giant’s retail travel stores in the area. Students will also be notified first hand of any vacancies arising in the stores and will be guaranteed an interview for relevant jobs.
In addition to work placement opportunities, tourism students from the College will benefit from industry visits and talks from staff working in retail travel from Thomas Cook and Co-operative Travel, while cluster managers from the company will participate in mock interviews with the students to help prepare them for work.
Matt Barr, Curriculum Manager for Hospitality, Tourism and Sport at Blackpool and The Fylde College said:
“We have a strong working relationship with a number of companies in the tourism industry but to be working so closely with such a renowned company is incredibly exciting. It will give our students the opportunity to develop their employability skills and gain experience and contacts in their chosen field.
“The way the placements are structured means around 80 students could potentially benefit from work experience each year. Even students who don’t pursue a career in travel retail will gain experience with an international company that offers tourism employment opportunities on airlines, cruise ships, in general customer service and as holiday reps. This is an ideal partnership for us.”
Susan Moody, Cluster Manager for Blackpool stores added:
“As a cluster management team for Thomas Cook, we are delighted to be working closely with Blackpool and The Fylde College to create a lasting relationship between the college and our local store network. We believe that encouraging students to experience the work environment along with providing them with many work based trainings, for example mock interviews, will help them significantly in their future lives and careers.
“As a management team we look forward to welcoming students to assist with various projects around the Fylde coast and are excited to assist Blackpool and The Fylde College at the many events they host in the area.”
Students will take up the work placements from September 2014.
