It’s almost show time for Blackpool and The Fylde College’s performing arts students who are being gifted a starring role in this year’s Showzam! spectacular presented by LeftCoast

Just after dark on 13 February, the streets and buildings of Blackpool town centre will be transformed for an incredible, hour-long piece of mass street theatre involving live rock music, abseiling and pyrotechnics.

Bringing this masterpiece to life is Generik Vapeur, one of France’s leading outdoor performance companies, who have invited the College to help reimagine their famous Bivouac show.

This week both BTEC and degree students will work alongside the French cast to hone social dancing and street arts skills, before showcasing them in what is described as one of the most gruelling and physically demanding performances Blackpool has ever seen.

Lecturer Mykey Young commented: “These extraordinary workshops will give our students a unique opportunity to develop a whole new set of performance skills as well as a professional credit on their CVs.

“Everyone is buzzing at the chance to work with such a creative company.”

Michael Trainor, Artistic Director of LeftCoast, added: “This performance is going to take the Showzam! festival to a whole new level and bring audiences in Blackpool an amazing outdoor experience that will live long in the memory.

“Having the students performing gives the show a whole new Blackpool dimension and I’m excited to see it take over the streets.”

Bivouac starts at 5.15pm. Full details of this and a host of other Showzam! performances can be found at www.showzam.co.uk.
