“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) has been giving pupils the opportunity to meet working professionals and get first-hand experience of a range of careers.
Some 800 children from 16 different schools in the Blackpool area were involved in the Job Junction Raising Aspirations programme, delivered by Positive Footprints.
And the College recently hosted a special celebration event where the pupils received certificates and watched a special video created to showcase their experiences.
Andy Iredale, Director of Stakeholder Engagement at B&FC, said:
“This was a fantastic project which the pupils really seemed to engage with.
“It was great to see so many young people from across the Fylde Coast learning about careers and thinking about what they want to be when they grow up.
“At B&FC, we focus on providing education which leads to rewarding and sustainable careers for our students. It’s important to begin thinking about what you want to be and how you’re going to achieve that from an early age so we were delighted to be able to assist in showing these young people some of their options.”
The event was sponsored by B&FC and housing group Calico Enterprise Ltd.
Phil Jones, Managing Director of Calico Enterprise Ltd, added:
"As an organisation that has grown considerably over the last few years, we recognise how important it is to develop and nurture young talent and for us this journey cannot start early enough.
“So we are absolutely delighted to be working alongside Blackpool and The Fylde College and Positive Footprints in helping young people develop their understand the world of work as very, very soon, we will all be reliant on these young people to be the driving force behind all our continued growth.”
Lesley Burrows, Managing Director of Positive Footprints, said the process had been inspirational for the pupils. She added:
“We were delighted to attend the celebration event for children and teachers who have worked through our ‘The Job Junction Raising Aspirations’ programme over the past year.
“It was great to see so many children receive awards for their ability to demonstrate how their personal qualities and skills can help in their future careers.
“Thanks to our fantastic aspirations partners, B&FC and Calico, children met with a range of businesses who opened up the world of work in inspirational and positive encounters.”
