VIDEO: Young Engineers get creative for £10,000 prize

Youngsters from around the Fylde Coast are competing for the title of Young Enginneers 2016 and a prize for their school of £10,000.

Following a closely-fought contest, 10 schools have qualified for the annual Blackpool Gazette event, after designing and building a catapult that could fire a bean bag the furthest distance.

They will now compete in the final on 26 February, with prize money being offered by Cuadrilla Resources and Centrica Energy.

Blackpool and The Fyde College played host in the new Advanced Technology Centre and staff were on hand to give students plenty of design advice.

Winner of the STEM Club of the Year was also announced - Baines School  in Poulton who have received £2,000.
