Thousands of young people from all over the country have been getting advice on how to kick start their career on the Fylde Coast.

Blackpool and The Fylde College took a prime position at The Skills Show to highlight the range of apprenticeships and commercial programmes available through the College’s new Illuminate Training Solutions arm.

And one visitor who was particularly keen to learn more was the Rt Hon Sajid Javid, MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Mr Javid toured the Birmingham NEC after making his opening speech and attended the Illuminate stand to discover the bespoke work being done with major businesses to deliver their individual training needs.

Dawn Leak, Director of Sales and Operations, at Illuminate Training Solutions, said: “It’s really encouraging that the Secretary of State has shown a genuine interest in our approach to addressing various skills gaps. Illuminate Training Solutions has been set up to help all kinds of employers by delivering technical and professional training for their workforce.

“This might be through apprenticeships or bespoke training, whatever it takes to ensure the students are ready to meet the needs of their business.

“It’s certainly an approach that has sparked interest among the thousands of people we have spoken to.”

Visitors to the stand, who included Shadow Skills Minister Gordon Marsden, also enjoyed a range of higher technical and professional demonstrations, plus a closer look at the College’s very own rally car that Motorsport and Automotive students work on during their courses.
