Any student who discloses a medical condition that may require assistance from the emergency services will be offered a Duty of Care Support Plan. In some cases this may require consultation with medical and healthcare professionals to ensure the best support plan possible; however this would only be with the prior consent of the student and/or parent/guardian/carer where appropriate. All interviews are carried out privately and confidentially.
In some cases, risk assessments (RAs) and/or personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPs) may also be required to minimise the risk to students and others.
The Duty of Care Support Plan is intended to give relevant information to specific colleagues to ensure the most effective support is in place. Parents/guardians/carers have the opportunity to attend initial meetings where appropriate, to read and agree the contents of the Duty of Care Support Plan.
