School Leaver Qualifications Explained

With so many options available once you finish school, it can be confusing knowing what to do next. Here's our guide to finding the course that's right for you.

As a school leaver you'll find that all our courses are designed to give you the skills and experience to excel not just in the classroom but also in employment so that you can start to build a career which leads to future success. From T Levels and A Level equivalent courses to Apprenticeships that let you earn and learn at the same time, we'll help you find the course that matches your abilities and meets your dreams and aspirations.

Diplomas

Our Level 1, 2 and 3 Diplomas combine practical learning with subject and theory content. Diplomas are designed for students interested in a particular sector or industry, but not necessarily with a specific job in mind. These highly practical programmes feature an industry placement, English and maths development and the opportunity to progress to a higher level or even onto an apprenticeship.

Apply for whichever level matches your experience. We'll decide the right study programme during a tutor chat following your application. Entry requirements vary. Please check the course page for more information.

Level 3 Triple Diplomas

Like the sound of fewer exams, a chance to gain industry experience and earning a qualification that employers and universities love? Our Level 3 Triple Diplomas are the equivalent to studying three A Levels and carry the maximum 168 UCAS points. Unlike A Levels, Level 3 Triple Diplomas are more assignment-based with emphasis on industry skills and experience.

T levels

A new 2-year qualification equivalent to three A Levels. If you’re academically strong but already have a skilled career route in mind, a T Level will give you a head start into your chosen industry. Along with the UCAS points needed for university you’ll develop high level technical skills via an industry placement. B&FC currently offer the largest range of T Levels in Lancashire.

Apprenticeships

Want to earn and learn at the same time? An apprenticeship lets you do both! If you’re keen to start your career straight away, an apprenticeship may be for you. With an apprenticeship you can start paid employment and work towards a nationally recognised qualification at the same time. You will develop your skills mostly through on-the-job training, with around 20% of your time spent doing ‘off-the-job’ training, usually at College. Ideally you will need to have a suitable position before you start but we can support you to find your ideal role.
